Listen to Sr Lise Mazo talk about her “double vocation” as a religious sister and artist. Looking back from the grand age of 92, she speaks first of all about her “marvellous” childhood as a member of a large and practising family in Finistère, Brittany. Entering the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus at the age of 18, she was happy to find herself in a forward-looking congregation that accepted her desire to create and eventually study at the Beaux-Arts of Rennes at the end of the sixties.
There then followed a long journey as an artist and teacher where she was able to fulfill herself as a sculptor and painter. Sister in a congregation oriented towards the “human“, she speaks of how this priority has inspired and guided her in her works of art that are so rich in colour and form.
“Mankind today needs to find itself again, to find something that goes beyond the material … I try to bring this into my art.“
