On September 8, the city of Three Rivers in Canada wanted to honor the hard work of our Sisters, the Daughters of Jesus, by assigning the name “Avenue des Filles-de-Jesus” to the former Avenue A.
Under a radiant sun, we responded to the invitation from the city of Three Rivers to attend the renaming of Avenue A, now to become: Avenue des Filles-de-Jésus. Our Regional Superior Sr. Monique Brûlé, the Animation Team for the entity of Three Rivers, Sr. Colette Gélinas, General Councillor – currently on vacation in Canada – plus other Daughters of Jesus responded to this invitation.
Mayor Jean Lamarche, Mr. Pierre Montreuil, district councillor, as well as representatives of Albatros, the Traversier and other guests from the municipality were also present.
A beautiful tribute
Mayor Jean Lamarche underlined the wonderful presence of the Daughters of Jesus in Three Rivers and its surrounding areas for more than 100 years, devoting themselves to education, to the sick and various other services to society, thus indicating that this tribute was more than deserved.
Our dear Sister Monique also noted these aspects, adding also the involvement of the Daughters of Jesus in pastoral care and in other various community services.
‘‘Avenue des Filles-de-Jésus’’
This name, Avenue des Filles-de-Jésus, is very appropriate not only because Kermaria is adjacent to it but also because this avenue touches Albatros, the former infirmary of the Daughters of Jesus) and the Traversier, abuilding which once belonged to the Daughters of Jesus. The latter has now become a reception center welcoming people suffering from mental issues.
Kermaria
We are still waiting for the realization of the wonderful project of transforming Kermaria into low-cost rentals, in order to help the poorest and thus continue to live our charism grounded on the Sacred Humanity of Christ. Therefore the fact that Avenue A has become the “Avenue des Filles-de-Jésus” is the logical continuation of the history of the Daughters of Jesus in America.
