On Thursday the 11th of July, the Tour de France 2024 cycling race passed through Monsempron-Libos, France. We were there.
The world’s greatest cycling race stopped off in Lot-et-Garonne for its 111th edition. The third biggest sporting event in the world, the Tour de France is above all a popular and festive event, ideal for discovering the regions crossed by the route.
In fact, the Tour de France passed right in front of our house. We were there to be with the people, to enjoy a time of conviviality, and we bumped into some acquaintances.
It was a very hot day, and everyone was looking for shade, but no-one wanted to miss this passage. It was a party with a great atmosphere!
We had to wait for hours before the caravan could bring joy to young and old alike with “souvenirs” and advertisements, shouts of joy, music and dance steps. Everyone gave their all.
An unexpected welcome
An elderly person asked me to come with her into her garden so that she could be in the shade. That’s what being close to our neighbours is all about. Cool, yes, but very human. We were able to chat and enjoy each other’s company.
The first cyclists
Here came the cyclists at last: 2 hours of waiting to see them go by in 3 or 4 minutes, and to applaud and encourage them.
Long live sport! Long live this convivial time when families and friends got together.
