The Sisters in mission in Karna, Cameroon, tell us about the vocation camp that took place from July 20-24, 2022. The theme of the camp was the call of Samuel in the Old Testament.
This camp brought together fifteen young girls from high school through to university, including two pre-postulants from the Congregation. In total, they came from four dioceses of the country, Ngaoundéré, Bertoua, Yagoua and Yaoundé. We welcomed the young ‘campers’ from the evening of the 19th onwards, so giving them the opportunity to get to know each other.

All of the campers were satisfied with the choice of the sub-themes concerning the call of Samuel and vocation:
– prayer as a means of listening to the call;
– the history of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus
– the witness of life, mission, and apostolate given by some of the Sisters;
– rereading and spiritual accompaniment.

We noted their interest through the depth of the questions, the active and dynamic participation in the tasks, the group work, the prayer, and the attentive listening during the different meetings.

The speakers took the trouble to find explicit examples so that they could understand better. Time to relax, for sport, a film, and a recreational evening, created more bonds between them and a warm atmosphere.

The testimonies of some of the young people
For me, the vocation camp was perfect because I felt welcomed and part of a family. The teachings were excellent because I learned the importance of discernment in the life of a Christian when making a decision. I will be sure to share this with the youth of my parish. If the Lord keeps us, I will be there next year.

At the end of our vocation camp organized by the Daughters of Jesus in Karna Manga, I can say with certainty that it was worthwhile participating in the camp. When I came, I was worried and full of questions. When I left the camp, my doubts were cleared up, especially on knowing how to orient oneself according to the will of God. At the end of this camp rich in emotions, I am more than delighted. From the teachings to the organization and even the environment, this camp gave me comfort, joy, and peace to continue to move forward in my life.
Thank you to each of the Sisters and good luck to all!

I was touched by the history of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus, especially by the audacity and courage of your foundress Perrine Samson who even went into bars to chase the men so that they would take care of their families. I also wish I had her qualities and the courage to speak in public.

Samuel’s vocation and the life witness of the Sisters touched me a lot. Samuel hears the voice of God, he is attentive, and he takes the step towards the priest Eli who helps him to recognize and respond to the call of God. I keep for myself the listening, the attention, the audacity to go towards, and the search for a guide.
