On May 24, 1925, Charles and Annie Sheehan welcomed Lucy Evelyn into their family. One week later, on May 31, Lucy was brought to St. John the Baptist Church to be welcomed in the Catholic faith with the Sacrament of Baptism. Lucy was the 7th of 12 children. Lucy was born and spent her early childhood and school days in Morinville, Alberta.

Answering God’s call, in 1947, Lucy left for the Novitiate in Trois-Rivières, QC. She pronounced her 1st vows on August 04, 1949 taking the name of “Marie Ste-Christine”. She returned to Alberta to study and obtain her degree in teaching. She taught in Pincher Creek, Plamondon, and at École St. Thomas d’Aquin School, Edmonton, french immersion to grade 1 students.

Having a liking for numbers and their logic, Lucy was hoping for a new challenge from teaching. In 1968 she was sent on mission to St Catherine’s Hospital in Lac La Biche to work in the Business Office. Her gifts in accounting and her attentiveness to details were recognized by our Provincial Leaders. In 1974 Lucy was named Provincial Treasurer for our Alberta/Montana Province. Lucy held this position until 2012 – 38 years. During these years she was noted for her ethics and professionalism by our Congregation, as well as by the bankers, finance advisors, lawyers and investors.

As a teacher and treasurer Lucy was respectful, precise, hardworking and encouraging. Her mission as woman of the church and “Fille de Jésus” was one of dedication, faithfulness, commitment and service. Her spiritual journey and pondering the WORD of GOD opened new horizons as she strove to let God’s love and life fill her life and the life of others. As Lucy’s health became more fragile in the last couple of years, there was a growing richness in living the simple ordinary events of today, and each moment was gift. In gratitude we thank God for the gift of Lucy’s life. In thanksgiving and prayer I would like to pray Philippians I: 3-4.

Sr Lucy Evelyn Sheehan, d.j (Marie Ste-Christine) died on march 14, 2015.
She was 89 years old.
