As in other years, the Locminé Tourist Office asked “Kermaria” to take part in this day so that people could discover or re-discover the Mother-house.
Several sisters participated in the welcome of visitors : small groups or individuals, sisters families, about 45 people in total …
Before visiting the site, everyone appreciated the viewing of a video tracing the history of the Congregation.
Afterwards each group set off to discover the site with a guide: chapel, oratories, garden, buildings, cemetery … All of the visitors stressed the beauty of the site.
The new cemetery with its catacombs, had numerous visitors, many out of curiosity. Several people knew it from the outside as a place of contemplation. Having participated at the funeral of a sister, a friend, they wanted to see and stop in front of the vault. They were very impressed!
The visitors asked diverse questions : the number of residents in St Joseph, or in the high dependency unit for the elderly, what the buildings were used for and their upkeep, questions on how the building work was financed … It was an opportunity to talk about how we put our money in common as well as the sharing that we live, both of which are very meaningful today.
Heritage Day, one more way of opening up Kermaria!
