Sister Lesly shares a little bit about her experience in Santiago de Chile, as a Daughter of Jesus helping in the process of self-repair and integration of vulnerable women.
My experience of the process of repair
More than a year ago, I was sent to Chile with the mission of sharing the life and passion of following Jesus and His desire for the Kingdom. This journey has been much more than an assignment; it has been an immersion into the sacred and human side of life, where each experience has revealed a renewing force that has guided my journey towards a deep personal and spiritual conversion.
Since my arrival, community life and mission work have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration and strength. I have found in each day the opportunity to grow and reflect on my vocation as a consecrated woman, exploring new horizons that enrich my dedication and respond to our charism as Daughters of Jesus.
Thanks to the action of the Holy Spirit, I have responded to the call to work with women in migrant situations, victims of human trafficking, survivors of domestic violence (IVF) and people with addictions to psychoactive substances in the EDUCERE Foundation.
The integration of vulnerable women
In this context, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a secular team, composed mainly of women, who respect and value the diversity of beliefs, be they Catholic, Gnostic, atheist, among others.
Together, we are dedicated to caring for other women, respecting and defending the human dignity in each one. In our work we constantly seek to rescue dignity, integrating, healing and strengthening the confidence of those who have lost hope due to painful experiences.
Simple gestures
Through this experience, I have discovered that the Lord manifests himself in the simplest, everyday gestures. A word of encouragement, a gesture of understanding, can be the key for a vulnerable person to begin their search for a life of autonomy and inner freedom. These moments of connection and support, though small, have the power to transform lives and offer hope.
I have often questioned whether my work is really meaningful, especially when the process of transformation is slow and the results are not always evident. However, I take comfort in remembering that my role is to be an instrument in God’s hands. He is the one who works in the heart of each person and determines when what is sown will bear fruit. My task is to carry these women in my daily prayer, trusting that God continues to work in their lives.
Working with women and child victims
Every day, I repeat to myself that my mission is to work with women and children who are victims of a sexist, classist and selective society, where they are often seen as a nuisance or ignored until they appear in the news for tragic reasons such as femicides or rights violations. Although the road to raising awareness is arduous and resources are sometimes limited, the desire to give and serve remains strong in my heart.
My experience in Chile has been a constant lesson in faith and hope, reaffirming my commitment to the charism of the Daughters of Jesus. I will continue to work with dedication, seeking to be an instrument of love and peace amid adversity, confident that God guides every step of my mission.
