Sister Andrée, daughter of Jesus, is a volunteer at an association in Trois Rivière, Canada. She shares her experience with us.
Volunteering for a better life
The Center offers several activities: home care through Meals on Wheels, amiCAB meetings, and transportation to various medical and other appointments. Social services include Tel-écoute Trois-Rivières and food and emergency aid distribution centers. Youth services include Lire et faire lire (Read and Teach Reading) and Le courrier des jeunes (Youth Mail).
“Improving the well-being of the population through access to essential services aimed at achieving life balance, home care, socialization, and more. As pioneers in our field, we provide significant support to beneficiaries and their families.” The association’s motto.
I have been volunteering at CAB Laviolette since 2019, helping with the meals-on-wheels program.

Working with the head chef
On Mondays, I work under the supervision of the head chef, along with one or two other volunteers. We prepare hot meals for 80 to 100 people.
We start by putting the desserts in dishes, then we clean and cut vegetables for the menus.
We pour the soup into containers and when the food is cooked, we form a production line for the main course. One person puts in the potatoes and other vegetables, another puts in the meat, and we close the containers. The meals are delivered to homes across the city by other volunteers.

Everything for a better quality of life
I finish by doing the dishes, and if there is time left, I prepare vegetables for future meals. This activity is enjoyable, stimulating and provides people in need with a better quality of life.
