Sr Edna passed away on February 11, 2025, at the Royal Court Residence, Riverview, Nouveau Brunswick, Canada, at the age of 86, after 64 years of religious profession.
Her funeral took place on February 17 at the Frenette Funeral Home and Crematorium, Moncton.
Edna was born in Cross Point, Quebec, on November 13th, 1938 in a family of twelve children. At the age of 19, she entered the novitiate in Moncton and became a Daughter of Jesus in 1960. Two of her sisters, Viviane and Jeannine, preceded her in the Congregation.
Having taken her Commercial Course at Dalhousie, Edna continued her studies while teaching in Arichat. Then she went to Edmonton where she completed her professional formation before beginning to teach first in Morinville, then in Modesto, California, and later in Plamondon for a total of ten years interrupted by a year of studies at the university in Edmonton. Her last year of teaching was at Athabasca and she then became involved in parish ministry for sixteen years. She was also Superior of her community from 1980 to 1993.
What Edna loved most in her pastoral work was the privilege to journey with people in their spiritual life. It helped her to get closer to the God who loves us so much. She also had the privilege of journeying for more than ten years with the Associate members of our Congregation in the Province of Edmonton and this experience helped her to deepen our charism as Daughters of Jesus.
In 1996, Edna came back into the Province of Moncton with her sister Jeannine and dedicated herself to pastoral ministry in St Stephen, Nash Creek and Benjamin River. After a year of spiritual renewal, Edna arrived in the community of Royal Court in Riverview. At the residence, she participated in the preparation of ecumenical celebrations, such as the World Day of Prayer. She volunteered at the Royal Court Library and, for a few years at the Riverview town Library. Every Sunday morning she saw that everyone was comfortably seated for the celebration of Mass. For a few years, she volunteered at the Riverview school to help some young students who had reading problems.
Edna was a friendly person, capable of going her way and living her convictions undeterred by the ordinary difficulties of life. She loved reading, gatherings, outings. She was faithful in her participation in some organized activities such as Hymn Sing on Sunday evening and Bingo during the week. She also loved playing cards with the Sisters.
On February 11, she passed away, trusting fully in the Lord she had loved and served as well as she could with the talents he had given her. She was 86 years old and in her 75th year of religious life. May she now fully enjoy peace, love, and happiness with God.
