During Holy Week, 2017, Sr Luz Marina took part in a mission in a rural community in Eastern Honduras. She shares with us what this beautiful experience meant to her.
It was Holy Week in Villa Santa, Ocotillo, in Oranine, a department in Eastern Honduras. We had come together as a mission team – four Daughters of Jesus, three ‘aspirants’ who are hoping to enter our congregation, a pastoral / vocational worker, two seminarists and two lay people, in addition to lay people from the community that had welcomed us.
Our mission in Octillo …
was to accompany chldren, young people and adults, helping them to reflect on themes appropriate to Holy Week. We also managed to visit families who live at a distance from the community, widely separated one from another.
A beautiful experience
This experience was very beautiful and allowed me to get to know a bit more about Honduras and its culture. Above all
it allowed me to share directly in the life of the people in a rural area and to experience how they celebrate Holy Week. It made me happy to see how warmly the people welcomed us into their homes.
“They shared what they had, not what they had to spare. I thank God for
allowing me to live such a beautiful experience.”
