For this Easter Vigil 2025, I was in Brittany at Kermaria, the Mother House of the Daughters of Jesus, with our Sisters and lay people.

The celebration began at the back of the chapel in the half-light, as the chaplain lit the ‘fire of joy’ – ‘The Light of Christ’ !

Let’s sing our joy

The Paschal candle was then lit from the fire, and each person received the light from two Sisters.

During the procession of light, Sister Marie-Noëlle sang the Exultet :

“Let the joy of the angels burst forth in heaven.

Let the joy of the world burst forth everywhere.

Let the joy of the children of God burst forth in the Church:

Light shines in the Church.

Light shines on the earth, People, sing!”

We praise you, splendour of the Father, Jesus, Son of God.

After the Gospel, the homily invited us to witness to the joy of the Risen Christ.

The universal prayer invited us to pray for all those who would be baptised or confirmed at this Easter Vigil.

The rite of sprinkling reminded us of our commitment as baptised Christians in the Church and in the world.

“Filled with the same Spirit, bearers of the same fire, we are your people”.

It was a beautiful celebration, simple but with fervent prayer.

Peace is possible

“Let us begin to hope again, for peace is possible. May the light of Easter shine on the whole world.
