During the snowstorms of the 5th and 6th of January 2026, solidarity sprang into action at the motherhouse, Kermaria, with rapid reorganisation.
On Monday the 5th of January, by the middle of the afternoon, Kermaria was covered by a white blanket of snow.

With the agreement of the Provincial, Sr Anne Thirion, we very quickly prepared rooms so that the staff could sleep on site, and thus better ensure their service the next day.
A mini “show”
The activities coordinator, Isabelle, and I quickly organised a snowball fight and snowman building contest, under the watchful eye of the sisters who watched us from their windows. It was already a moment of joy for everyone.

A moment of conviviality
When the sisters learned that members of the staff were sleeping at Kermaria, they quickly went to offer them pyjamas.
After everyone had finished their duties with the sisters, we gathered together for a well-deserved cup of herbal tea.

Waiting for the staff of the high care unit, the Holy Family, allowed us to spend some time together outside contemplating the moonlight. Some of us found it difficult to go to bed because the ambiance was so good!
A time of solidarity
The next morning, staff replaced those who were stuck in the snow : a facilitator and a nurse did the washing up, while another member of staff served breakfast to the sisters.
Solidarity was very much present, in a spirit of good humour and joy.

“Caring“
During this time of solidarity and conviviality, I perceived how we all ‘cared’ for each other, and especially for the sisters.
What sprang from my heart was also ‘humanising in the manner of Jesus’. I was in admiration of the staff who were committed to caring for the sisters, and other staff members.

I believe we will remember this beautiful experience of solidarity and conviviality.
